JEE Advanced 2023 exam pattern

  • The JEE Advanced 2023 exam will be conducted for admission to engineering and architecture programs at 23 IITs.
  • Candidates will have to appear for 2 papers and the main subjects that will be evaluated in the exam are
    1. Physics
    2. Chemistry
    3. Maths
  • Based on 2022 , prediction for 2023 is that the exam will be conducted for a total of 360 marks
  • Subject wise total marks that can be scored are
    • Physics- 120 marks ( 60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
    • Maths- 120 marks (60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
    • Chemistry -120 marks (60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
  • The marking scheme for 2023 will include full marks , partial marks, negative marks and no marks for unanswered questions.
  • The JEE Advanced 2023 exam will be conducted in 2 languages -English and Hindi

  • The JEE Advanced 2022 exam was conducted by IIT Bombay and below are the details of the exam pattern and marking scheme.
  • JEE Advanced 2022 exam was conducted in online mode as a computer based test.
  • Candidates had to attend and qualify 2 papers. The subjects that were evaluated include Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Paper 1 and 2 had 3 sections each and following are the details regarding each section.
  • Subject wise total marks
    • Physics- 120 marks ( 60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
    • Maths- 120 marks (60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
    • Chemistry -120 marks (60 marks for Paper 1 and 60 marks for Paper 2)
  • JEE Advanced 2022- Paper 1 -Section 1
    • In section 1 a total of 8 questions were asked and the answers to these questions should be a numerical value.
    • The marking scheme included +3 for correct answers and 0 marks for wrong and unanswered questions.
    • The maximum marks that can be scored in this section was 24 marks.
    • The same pattern was used for all 3 subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) Section 1 part.
  • JEE Advanced 2022- Paper 1 -Section 2
    • Section 2 contains a total of 6 questions.
    • And each question has 4 options to choose from , and one or more than one option will be the correct answer.
    • Candidates had to read the question properly to choose the correct answer.
    • The marking scheme included
      • +4 if all the correct answers were chosen
      • +3, if the answer had 4 correct options and the candidate had chosen only 3 correct answers
      • +2 , if three or more options were correct and if the candidate chose only 2 correct answers.
      • +1, if two or more options are correct but only 1 correct choice was selected
      • 0 marks for unanswered questions
      • -2 marks for all other cases.
    • The maximum marks that can be scored in this section was 24 marks.
    • The same pattern was used for all 3 subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) Section 2 part.
  • JEE Advanced 2022- Paper 1 -Section 3
    • Section 3 contains a total of 6 questions.
    • Multiple choice question was the format.
    • 2 lists were given, in which List 1 had 4 entries, List 2 had 5 entries.
    • For each multiple choice question 4 options were given based on matching the choices provided in list 1 and 2.
    • Out of the 4 options only 1 option satisfies the condition asked in the question.
    • Candidates had to read the question properly to choose the correct answer.
    • The marking scheme included
      • +3, if the correct answer was chosen
      • 0 marks for unanswered questions
      • -1 marks for all other cases.
    • The maximum marks that can be scored in this section was 12 marks.
    • The same pattern was used for all 3 subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) Section 3 part.
