JEE Main Exam Eligibility

National Testing Agency(NTA) will release the eligibility criteria conditions for candidates appearing for JEE Main 2023 exam on their official website. These criterias include age limit, marks obtained in their respective board exams. Let us look into the details of each of these criterias in detail.

JEE Main 2023 exam eligibility criteria

Candidates should abide by the eligibility criterias released by the NTA before applying for the exam. If the candidate does not qualify or meet the eligibility criteria then there are high chances of the application being canceled. It is a good practice to check if the candidate fulfills all the eligibility criteria requirements before filling the application form.

JEE Main 2023 exam Age limit

Candidates who appeared for JEE Main 2022 exam had no age limit. But students should remember that institutes that they are desiring to get admission for a degree program might have age restrictions.

JEE Main 2023 Qualifying exams

Below is a list of qualifying exams that the candidate should have cleared to be eligible for appearing for JEE Main exam and those are

6. Higher Secondary Vocational exam Conducted by any recognized board
7. Diploma         Recognized by AICTE or State board of technical education with a duration of 3 years. 
8. General Certificate Education (GCE)     Conducted at London/Cambridge/ Sri Lanka at the Advanced (A) level.
9. High school Certificate exam Conducted by Cambridge university or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Appearance in the Qualifying exams

  • To appear in the JEE Main 2023 exam, those who have passed the Class12 or the above-mentioned qualifying examination in 2021, 2022 or those who are appearing in 2023 are eligible for appearing in the JEE Main exam.
  • Candidates who have written the qualifying exams in 2020 or before are not eligible to appear in the JEE Main exam
  • For the 2023 JEE Main exam also those who have passed in 2021, 2022  qualifying examination or those who are appearing in class 12 examination will be allowed to write JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 2023 exam eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced exam

  • The main eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Advanced exam is that the candidate should have appeared and secured minimum cut off marks in JEE Main exam for that particular year.
  • Another eligibility criteria is that the candidate needs to be within 2,50,000 All India rank in the Common Rank List prepared by NTA in the JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 2023 exam State of Eligibility

  • State of eligibility criteria in JEE Main exam means the State from where the candidate has passed class 12 or the equivalent qualifying exam.
  • An important thing to note is that the candidate have to fill the state code while applying for the JEE Main exam application form and this State code is NOT the native place or the place of residence, it is the State where the candidate passed Class 12 examinations.
  • For instance if the candidate appears for the class 12 exam in New Delhi but is a resident of Uttar Pradesh then New Delhi will be the state code for the candidate and NOT Uttar Pradesh.

75% Marks in Class 12 exam eligibility criteria

  • For appearing in the JEE Main exam there is no strict criteria that the candidate should have secured at least 75% in their Class 12 examination.
  • But this might be a qualifying criteria if the candidate wishes to get admission into IITs and NITs in the 2023 academic year. 

Eligibility criteria with subject combinations for appearing in JEE Main examination

  • To be eligible for appearing for Paper 1 in JEE Main examination the candidate must have passed in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry  in Class 12 examination
  • To be eligible for appearing for Paper 2A in JEE Main examination the candidate must have passed Mathematics in class 12 exam.
  • To be eligible for appearing in Paper 2B for securing admission into B.Planning courses then candidates should have passed in mathematics in Class 12 examination.

JEE Mains Eligibility FAQs

This criteria was removed temporarily due to COVID 19 and if everything goes well then there is a chance of restoring the 75% eligibility criteria for students to appear in JEE main exam

The eligibility criteria of securing 75% in class 12  to appear in JEE Main exam was relaxed due to COVID-19, but for JEE main 2023 , NTA has not yet released the eligibility criteria conditions.

State of eligibility for this candidate will be Uttar Pradesh as NTA rules suggest that the state from which the candidate has passed class 12 will be taken into consideration.

Admissions to IIT,NIT will definitely consider a candidates class 12 exam score.
