In 1957, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan proposed building an engineering college in Mumbai. The Engineering Personal Committee of the Planning Commission has released a number of recommendations for the establishment of additional engineering schools and polytechnics in order to increase the nation’s technical workforce. The central and state governments both supported Havan’s desire to open an engineering college. On August 19, 1962, the Sadar Patel College of Engineering was launched by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first and current Prime Minister of Independent India. Sadar Patel Institute of Technology in Mumbai was established in 2005. It is a self-contained engineering and research institute. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan organization manages SPIT. According to the NIRF ranking, the institute is ranked 143rd in the engineering category.
