A putative university known as the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology was first founded in 1952 on the CME campus as the Institute of Armament Studies. The Department of Defence Research & Development, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, houses the Defense Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), which is the top engineering training facility. It also goes by the name DIAT Pune. The varsity campus contains 50 faculty members overall and is 498 acres in size. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation have both designated DIAT as a Category "A" Deemed University under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India. The University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have given their approval to the institution. In the NIRF engineering rankings for 2021, the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology is ranked 58th.
