GEC Thrissur is one of South India's most prominent and well-known technical education institutions, and it has received IS0 9001:2008 certification. Undergraduate programs in the engineering fields of civil, mechanical, and electrical were offered when the college was founded in 1957. The University of Calicut and APJ Abdul Kalam Technology University are currently connected with the college. The All India Council of Architecture (COA) and the National Board of Accreditation all acknowledge the college and its programs (NBA). The first principal, Prof. S.Rajaraman, was a civil engineer of international repute and the author of many engineering books. He, along with Prof. M.P. Mathew and Prof. V.S. Nair (the then Heads of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, respectively), formed the triumvirate that established the growth of the college.
