The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, was established in 1951 and this public university is located in West Bengal, India. Initially, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, persuaded Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, to establish higher technical institutions. The first institution, IIT Kharagpur, was established in 1950 at Esplanade East in Calcutta and later, it was relocated to Hijli, Kharagpur. This institute is the fourth-oldest Indian institute in West Bengal and its campus is sprawled around 2100 acres.
