The Indian Institute of Technology Patna (abbreviated IIT Patna or IITP) is a public technical university located at Bihta in Patna, India.

It is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. It is one of the new IITs established by an Act of the Indian Parliament on August 6, 2008.

IIT Patna is one of the new IITs ranked among the top 21 engineering colleges in India. The institute is ranked 59th overall and 33rd in the Engineering category in the NIRF ranking of 2022, which spans around 500 acres of land space, making the campus more spacious and thereby rendering most of the world-class fascinating facilities to all the enrolled students, staff, and the tutoring professors in order to provide a safe and secure lifestyle offering all sorts of basic amenities within the campus so that the students do not need to seek for eternal support outside the campus to get along with their adequate needs and requirements.

IIT Patna is one of the eight new IITs established by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The institute has 10 academic departments; 50 laboratories; 3 schools; and a few advanced research centers.

The research and education areas of IIT Patna are Engineering, Pure Science, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
The institute has collaborations with nine foreign universities. These collaborations provide research opportunities to students and faculty members in different areas of science and technology.

Students and research scholars from IIT Patna can also visit the US, Australia, Singapore, and Canada for exchange programs and international internships.

The institute offers more than 40 courses leading to UG, PG, and Ph.D. degrees. The flagship program of IIT Patna is BTech.

The program has nine streams. Candidates seeking admission to the program are required to appear for the JEE Advanced exam and participate in the JoSAA counseling.
For IIT Patna BTech admission, a JEE Advanced rank of 1849–14216 is desirable.

IIT Patna also offers a one-year Post Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.
The program is provided in collaboration with the Bombay Stock Exchange. The program is conducted every weekend for 3 hours per session.

After the successful completion of the course, the participant is awarded dual certification from the BSE Institute and IIT Patna.
Similarly, there has been an increase in the number of students placed in BTech and MTech programs.
The permanent campus of IIT Patna is located at Bihta, which is approximately 30 km west of Patna and has been fully operational since 2015.
