National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), also known as NITK Surathkal, formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), is a public technical university in Surathkal, Mangalore. It was founded in 1960 as KREC, and today it is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

 The NIT Surathkal is ranked 10th among engineering colleges by the NIRF 2021. The Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) was established in 1960 and upgraded to the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. The institute is ranked 10 among the top engineering colleges in India by NIRF 2021. NITK spans around 296 acres as it offers UG, PG, and doctoral programs in the fields of engineering, science, and management.

  The B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is the flagship course of NIT Surathkal and was incepted in the year 2002. Admissions to the same are done based on JEE Main scores followed by JoSAA Counselling. The JEE Main cutoff for CSE at NITK ranges from 578–1002 for the general category.
